5 golden rules for your jewelry to remain just as beautiful over time

You've invested in a piece you genuinely love, not just one that's "okay for the price." It deserves to last. And it can, if you know a few simple things no one tells you when you buy.

01

Perfume first, jewelry after

It seems minor, but it's perhaps the most important habit you can form. Alcohol in perfumes and styling products attacks the outer layer of jewelry over time, including 18K gold-plated stainless steel.

The rule is super simple: apply perfume, wait for it to dry completely, only then put on your jewelry. 30 seconds of patience that truly makes a difference in the long run.

Pro tip: The same applies to cream, body oil, and hairspray. Let your skin absorb them first, and only then adorn yourself. :)
02

Tap water is not your enemy — but pool water is

316L stainless steel jewelry is water-resistant — you can forget your bracelet on your wrist when washing your hands or getting caught in the rain. It's not a catastrophe at all.

What truly causes harm: chlorine in pools and salt in seawater with prolonged contact. Both accelerate oxidation and affect the plating layer. So, before the beach or swimming, take off your jewelry and put it in your bag.

Note: "Water-resistant" does not mean "invincible." It means that everyday life does not damage it — but prolonged chemical exposure does.
03

Clean it simply, once a week

You don't need special products. A soft microfiber cloth and a little warm water with a drop of neutral soap, that's all. Gently wipe, rinse, and dry completely.

Do not use abrasive cloths, toothbrushes, or solutions with chlorine, vinegar, or ammonia. Even if the jewelry appears "cleaner" at the moment, you scratch the micro-surface and the plating layer deteriorates faster.

Sunday ritual: 2 minutes of quiet cleaning. Put on a podcast and treat it as you both deserve. ;)
04

Store it separately, not in a pile

The most frequent cause of scratches? Jewelry rubbing against each other in a common bowl or box. Metal scratches metal, even with quality pieces.

Ideally: each piece in its own compartment or small velvet pouch. If you don't have an organizer, a simple box with small dividers works perfectly. Here, it's not about aesthetics, but about real protection.

Bonus: Storing in dry places (not in the bathroom) and away from direct sunlight further extends the life of the jewelry.
05

Take it off when doing physical work or sports

Sweat in large quantities (especially during intense workouts) contains salts that can affect the outer layer over time. Plus, impacts and rubbing against equipment leave marks that even the best jewelry cannot avoid.

Make it a habit: take off your jewelry before the gym, gardening, intense cooking, or any activity where you know you'll sweat seriously. It takes 10 seconds and saves months of wear.

Reality: No jewelry in the world is "wear it forever, zero maintenance." But with a few small habits, yours can look just as good a year after purchase.
